OFFICIAL RULES FOR WCS BELIZE REEF WEEK 2024 - HIGH SCHOOL DIGITAL POSTER COMPETITION
Wildlife Conservation Society of 1755 Coney Drive, Coral Groves, Belize City (hereinafter “WCS BELIZE”) invites interested high school students ("Entrants") to illustrate to the country of Belize what REEF WEEK 2024 theme "Unite in the Coral Reef Fight: Learn, Teach, and Do What's Right!" means to you. Highlight the importance of corals in the ecosystem and why we must protect these species by entering the WCS BELIZE’S Digital Poster Competition. The Digital Poster competition is an activity under WCS BELIZE to commemorate REEF WEEK 2024. This Digital Poster competition offers an opportunity for Entrants to give their opinion on this year’s theme and to showcase their artwork and talent that can inspire others to do the same.
By participating in this competition, Entrants and Entrants’ parents agree to be bound by these official rules, which are final and binding on all matters relating to the competition.

ELIGIBILITY
- The competition is open to HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ONLY throughout the country of Belize.
- Entrants’ parents must follow WCS Belize’s social media accounts (WCS Belize’s TikTok @wcs_belize and at least one other social media page, either Facebook or Instagram @WCSBelize
- Entries must not be obscene, offensive, defamatory or libelous.
- One post entry per person or group. Entries on multiple social media channels will not be accepted.
- Alterations cannot be made to digital posters that have been submitted and posted on entrants’ parents social media pages.
- Note that all digital poster submissions will be screened by WCS BELIZE to ensure that it qualifies to enter the competition.
FINAL SUBMISSION DATE:
Thursday, March 7th, 2024, by 6:00 p.m. Digital Posters should be submitted by sending an email to ecruz@wcs.org with the subject of the email as: “STUDENTS FULL NAME_ - Reef Week 2024 Digital Poster Competition” and include the following information and attachments in the email body:
- Digital Poster file in JPEG or PNG formats ONLY attachment
- Students Full Name, Age, and Name of High School.
- Summary describing the Digital Poster submission.
- Entrants’ parents’ direct social media post link
HOW TO WIN:
- Submissions must be digital artwork in JPEG or PNG format, must be original and based on the REEF WEEK 2024 theme.
- Post the digital artwork on entrants’ parents social media page (Facebook or Instagram) and tag @WCSBelize and include hashtags #WCSBelize #ReefWeek2024.
- Post must be “PUBLIC” and include the following information in the caption:
- Students Full Name, Age, and Name of High School.
- Brief description of the artwork.
- The entrants’ parents then can ask friends and relatives to follow WCS BELIZE social media pages; including to like, share and comment on their original digital poster posted in their preferred social media platform (you are free to share your video on other social media platforms to gain more likes, be sure to tag @wcsbelize)
- TOP 3 most liked eligible digital posters during the competition period will be entered into a round of final judging.
- WCS Belize and Reef Week 2024 committee members will judge and vote for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.
NOTIFICATION TO WINNERS:
The winners will be publicly announced LIVE on Monday, March11th, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. via WCS BELIZE Facebook, Instagram and TIKTOK pages. All decisions of WCS BELIZE are final on all aspects of the competition. Digital artwork and may be displayed on various WCS BELIZE-branded media, at the sole discretion of WCS BELIZE.
DIGITAL POSTER ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS:
The artwork MUST:
- Have imagery and information relevant to REEF WEEK 2024 theme, "Unite in the Coral Reef Fight: Learn, Teach, and Do What's Right! "
- Contain material focusing on Belize and activities engaged in Belize.
- Be your original idea (modification of a previously published work shall not be considered an original idea). Entrants should not knowingly copy previously published artwork. However, entries will not be excluded merely because another published artwork has a similar idea.
- Accepted format submissions: JPEG or PNG preferred.
- Size: 12 x 18 or A3, minimum of 200 ppi resolution.
- You can create the poster using any program you wish!
- Save your original work original file format until the contest ends… if you are selected as one of the winners, we’ll ask you for your original file for best-quality printing!
The artwork MUST NOT:
- Contain material which is (or promotes activities which are) sexually explicit, obscene, pornographic, violent, discriminatory (based on race, sex, religion, natural origin, physical disability, sexual orientation or age), illegal, offensive, threatening, or harassing.
- Contain material that violates or infringes another's rights, including but not limited to material that violates privacy, publicity or intellectual property rights, or that constitutes copyright infringement; and
WCS BELIZE reserves the right to disqualify any entry that it believes violates any of the digital poster submission requirements, does not otherwise comply with these official rules, or that is not consistent with the spirit and theme of the competition.

The winners will be given the following prizes:
1st Place – $ 300.00 CASH + Reef Week 2024 Promotional Items
2nd Place – $150.00 GIFT CERTIFICATE to A&R Store + Reef Week 2024 Promotional Items
3rd Place – $100.00 GIFT CERTIFICATE to A&R Store + Reef Week 2024 Promotional Items
RELEASE AND RIGHTS IN SUBMISSIONS:
In consideration of Entrant's digital artwork being reviewed and evaluated for this competition, each Entrants’ parents, unless the Entrant it 18 years or older, hereby grant to WCS BELIZE, the following Consent and Release:
- Grant permission to Wildlife Conservation Society of 1755 Coney Drive, Coral Groves, Belize City (hereinafter “WCS BELIZE” ) including any and all of its subsidiaries, licensees, successors, assignees, and any and all other individuals, agencies, corporations, organizations acting on behalf of the WCS BELIZE to take, obtain and use as the WCS sees fit the voice, image, photograph, likeness, video, and/or any other form of media as it develops (hereinafter “Likeness”) of the Minor.
- Grant the WCS BELIZE all ownership rights and the absolute and irrevocable right and permission to copyright, use and publish the Likeness of the MINOR including but not limited to video, audio, photo, electronic image and/or any media as it develops/evolves or other image, natural or altered in any state by any manner which has been, or is being, obtained by the WCS BELIZE in relation to WCS BELIZE’S Digital Poster Competition ( “the Competition”) and otherwise pursuant to this Cosent and Release. Also hereby assign to the WCS BELIZE any intellectual property rights that may arise from the taking use of the MINOR’s Likeness as contained herein or its use in any manner or for any purpose.
- Agree that the Entrants Likeness may be copyrighted, used and/or published individually or in conjunction with other photography or video works, and in any medium including without limitation, print publications, public broadcast, any electronic format, and/or any media as it develops/evolves and for any lawful purpose, including without limitation in any WCS BELIZE activity for promotion of the Competition or otherwise, as determined by the WCS BELIZE, including but not limited to institutional, educational and/or fundraising initiatives.
- Hereby grant explicit consent to photograph the MINOR and use his or her Likeness in accordance with this Consent and Release, and for whom I as Parent/Guardian warrant that I have the full capacity and legal authority to grant such consent and authorization as contained herein. Further agree that the permission and authorization granted herein shall extend in perpetuity and shall include use of the MINOR’S Likeness in any medium, without time or location limits and for endorsing WCS BELIZE in any territory or jurisdiction in the world.
- Hereby waive any and all rights, whether legal/equitable or otherwise including but not limited to all rights that I, and/or any party related to the MINOR, may have to inspect or approve WCS BELIZE’S copyright, use or publication of the Likeness, or the advertising copy, electronic or printed matter that may be used in connection with the copyright, use and/or publication of the Likeness. Furthermore, I agree and acknowledge that neither I, the MINOR nor any party related to myself or the MINOR, will receive any form of compensation for the use of Likeness and that no photograph or use that WCS BELIZE may grant or be granted establishes any employment relationship between myself, the MINOR and WCS BELIZE. There shall be no entitlement to any salary, wage, or any other form of compensation.
- Hereby consent and release the WCS BELIZE and all persons and/or its trustees, officers, agents, servants and employees and/or entities acting under its permission or authority, from any and all claims, demands or actions including but not limited to tort, contract, claims of libel, slander, invasion of privacy, infringement of copyright or right of publicity, or any other claim related to use of Likeness (collectively, "Claims"). I agree that I will not institute any action in any forum in any country worldwide seeking to hold WCS BELIZE responsible for any such injuries or damages occurring in relation to the Likness and/or subject matter of this Consent and Release. Furthermore, this release includes without limitation any Claims related to blurring, distortion, alteration, optical illusion, use in composite form, whether intentional or otherwise, or use of a fictitious name, that may occur or be produced in the processing or publication of the Likeness. Also, this release includes all other claims of liabilities, damages, costs and expenses associated with use of the Likeness and above materials.
- Hereby fully indemnify and agree to defend and hold harmless the WCS BELIZE, its directors, trustees, officers, employees, agents, and affiliates, from and against any and all losses, liability, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees and expenses) which any of them may incur or be obligated to pay in any action, claim, or proceeding against them or any of them, for or by reason of this Consent and Release and or its subject matter including but not limited to my misrepresentation and/or any acts, whether of omission or commission, that I or any person acting on behalf may have committed.
RIGHTS OF WCS BELIZE/DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY:
WCS BELIZE reserves the right to terminate the competition for any reason in the event that there is an error, malfunction, problem or other cause which impacts the operation, administration or security of the competition or the WCS BELIZE and, in such situation, may select the winner from the eligible entries received prior to the action taken or in such manner as deemed fair and appropriate by WCS BELIZE.
